Overview
For this project, I illustrated Deux frères et leurs moutons (Two Brothers and Their Sheep), one of the folk tales featured in the series. I led concept development, sketching, and final artwork, refining the visuals through feedback and production constraints along the way.
The style leans into a soft, storybook-inspired approach, with a subtle beige overlay referencing traditional Chinese watercolour and the delicate papers it's painted on — grounding the tale in its cultural roots while keeping it approachable for young viewers.
The story is narrated by Aurore Liang, a trilingual performer known for her theatrical, expressive delivery of traditional tales.
The Results
Each illustration was built in layers, with key visual assets separated to support animation — allowing the artwork to translate seamlessly into motion.
Radio-Canada's in-house animation team brought the illustrations to life, turning static compositions into a fully animated short for the series. The final piece balances a handcrafted, storybook feel with the movement and pacing needed for young audiences, extending the illustration work well beyond a single static image.
