Not Your Average Background TV
The Slowest Show is a new first-of-its-kind comedy. Like ASMR for your eyes, it's slow TV that’s as funny as it is relaxing. Filmed during COVID, the series brings back people-watching by inviting viewers to everyday locations like a skatepark, wave pool, ice rink, art gallery and more.
The Brief
The goal was to develop a concept that reflects the modular nature of The Slowest Show. At first glance, the show appears intentionally uneventful, true to its title, but its charm lies in the quiet details. A couple mid-argument, an old man drifting on a tube float, a clown passing through the frame — each subtle vignette unfolds independently, yet together they form a layered, cohesive whole. These micro-stories build a world that feels whimsical, lighthearted, and unexpectedly engaging, transforming “background TV” into something rich with personality and quiet delight.
My Role
I served as creative director for the brand and title graphics on this project—developing and presenting the initial concepts to the client, and guiding the animator through the creative direction from start to finish. As the primary designer, I also produced the final assets for CBC Gem's platform.
